Although there are only 238 locals in 62,000 hectares of the Applecross Peninsula, we are a vibrant and creative community of artists, musicians, artisans, craftspeople and entrepreneurs

Painters especially, come up here on retreat because of the amazing light and inspiring landscape. Many locals are generous with their knowledge, like history buff and spinner Margaret Beaton, who will pop around to Eagle Rock with her spinning wheel for an hour to teach you her craft and passion. She speaks about six languages too!

Croft Wools & Weavers

Leslie and Thomas Kilbride are crofters and makers of textiles who raise grey Gotland sheep and Shetland cattle between the seashore and high mountains. Apart from selling a treasure trove of hand-dyed and woven fabrics and products that bridge the contemporary to traditional, they also run rural craft workshops on spinning, weaving, and dying with natural crafts
